Communication/ Publicity/ Newsletter
- Informs members through the “A-Z Newsletter” of up-coming meetings, events, and happenings
- Makes courtesy calls to those not in attendance
- Publicizes chapter happenings in local newspapers/media
- Notifies chapter members of any member’s health issues or family concerns
- Checks DKG and Eta State websites weekly
Scholarship
- Keeps updated information on all scholarships – national (Delta Kappa Gamma), state (Eta State), chapter (Alpha Zeta)
- Presents pertinent information when available at chapter meetings
- Interviews, selects, and recommends candidates for Grant-in-Aid awards
- Invites scholarship recipients to attend a meeting as guest and to be photographed
Parliamentarian:
- Follows Robert’s Rules of Order for chapter business sessions
Finance:
- Votes on the amount of chapter dues and assessments
- Assists in formulating the chapter budget
- Reviews, modifies and adopts the budget to be voted on by the chapter membership
- Supervises expenditures and investments
- Provides for an annual audit or review of the accounts of the chapter
Society Mission and Purposes
Educational Excellence Committee
- Helps the chapter plan and monitor ways to promote the EEC focuses, especially “Schools for Africa” and “Support for Early Career Educators”
- Encourages chapter to engage in activities that enable members to further educational excellence in all eleven areas
Membership Expansion/Nominations
- Clarifies qualifications for the three main types of membership – Active, Reserve, and Honorary
- Distributes forms for membership application in October and collects returned forms in December
- Present a list of potential new members to be voted on by the February meeting
- Plans an orientation and tea for new members
- Presents a new slate of officers to be voted on at the February 2014 meeting
- Compiles a history of the chapter including necrology
- Assists with preparing and conducting of all ceremonies – installation of new members and officers, and Ceremony of Remembrance
Leadership Development/Beginning Teacher Support
- Promotes programs that support early career-educators
- Encourages chapter members to be creative in supporting beginning teachers
- Recommend activities to help members become more involved with beginning teachers by donating time and resources
World Fellowship/Global Awareness/DKG/UN Relationships
- Promotes “Schools for Africa” project
- Makes chapter members aware of DKG’s partnership with UNICEF in promoting Schools for Africa
- Presents programs and engage members in actively supporting the “Schools for Africa” project
- Focuses on increasing members’ global awareness to encompass, but not limited to, environmental, social, cultural, political, and economic relations
Fine Art/Impacting Personal and Professional Pride:
- Plans music for all chapter meetings and ceremonies
- Encourages programs and activities that increase members’ personal and professional pride so that they can, in turn, have a greater impact on excellence in education
- Advises chapter members how to apply for DKG scholarships and grants to promote personal growth in education
- Recognizes chapter members who have received academic awards or other achievements
US Forum/Educational Law and Policy:
- Plans programs and activities that impact educational laws and policy
- Keeps members informed of current economic, social, political, and educational issues
- Encourages members to be proactive in communicating with state legislative members on educational issues
